People Before Transactions
Every visit to Mercer House is treated as an interaction with a neighbor, not a customer number. We keep records of previous visits precisely so we can continue a conversation rather than start from scratch every time.
Our Story
Mercer House began in 2015 with a simple idea: that Brașov deserved a local business that put community before convenience and people before profit.
Meet the Team
Mercer House opened its doors in the spring of 2015, choosing Strada Mureșenilor for its central position in Brașov's daily life — a street where residents actually walk, shop, and linger rather than rush past. The founders had a clear intention: to create a small business that felt genuinely embedded in its neighborhood, one that would still be recognizable and relevant ten years later. That meant investing in staff who live locally, designing a space that reflected the warm, ochre-and-timber aesthetic of the Transylvanian built environment, and building relationships rather than just completing transactions. Today the sand-olive interior and the familiar faces behind the counter are as much a part of the Mercer House identity as any service we provide.
We use the word community carefully, because we have seen it used carelessly by businesses that mean something quite different. For Mercer House, community means specific, practical things: knowing our clients' names, remembering their previous visits, making time for a conversation that has nothing to do with the service being booked. It means sponsoring the neighborhood clean-up on Strada Lungă every October. It means keeping our prices honest even when we could charge more. It means being the kind of business that, if it closed tomorrow, people in Brașov would actually notice and miss. We are not there yet with every goal — but that is the direction we are heading, one appointment at a time.
These are not aspirational statements — they are the practical commitments we make to everyone who walks through our door.
Every visit to Mercer House is treated as an interaction with a neighbor, not a customer number. We keep records of previous visits precisely so we can continue a conversation rather than start from scratch every time.
We have deliberately stayed small, turning down opportunities to expand too quickly. A second location might be possible one day — but only when we are certain it would reflect the same values, not dilute them.
Our prices are posted publicly and reviewed transparently. We never add charges after the fact. If a service costs more than quoted for any reason, we absorb the difference rather than pass it on unexpectedly.
From the Romanian suppliers we source products from to the Brașov-based tradespeople we call when something needs fixing, we deliberately route money through local hands whenever a comparable option exists.
“I have followed this business since almost the beginning — I remember the opening week in 2015 when the paint on the doorframe was still fresh. What impresses me most is not that Mercer House has stayed the same, but that it has evolved thoughtfully. The sand-olive walls and the smell of timber are the same, but the range of services and the team's knowledge are noticeably deeper than they were five years ago.”
— Ruxandra I., Brașov resident since 1993
